The Queen continues her New Year’s speech.
Every year on 1 January, you can follow the Queen’s New Year’s relay from your sofa when the government, the court, the Speaker of the Folketing and representatives of official Denmark are invited to Amalienborg.
But not in 2021.
For the Queen has chosen to cancel due to the situation with coronavirus. This is how it sounds in a press release from the Royal House on Tuesday.
The New Year’s shed for the Supreme Court, the Royal Life Guards and the Guard House Regiment’s duty officer corps, the diplomatic corps, the Armed Forces and the Danish Emergency Management Agency, as well as national organizations and royal patrols, which should have been held on 4 and 5 January, are also canceled.
However, a small New Year’s party will be held for the Prime Minister and some representatives of official Denmark at Christiansborg on 4 January.
Only once earlier during the Queen’s reign have New Year’s events been canceled, the Royal House informs. That was in 2005, when a tsunami swept across Southeast Asia in December 2004, killing hundreds of thousands.
The Queen will continue her New Year’s speech on 31 December at 18.00, the Royal House informs.
