The Hobbit from “The Lord of the Rings is Dead”

The Lord of the Rings

Actor Ian Holm managed to play everything from ‘Alien’ to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ films. He turned 88.

You probably know him best as the good-natured hobbit Bilbo Baggins in two of the three ‘Lord of the Rings’ films released in the 2001-2003 period.

But British actor Ian Holm also managed to star in lots of other films and on the sloping boards throughout his long career. Now he’s dead, 88 years old, writes The Guardian .

He died peacefully in a hospital surrounded by his family and carers, his agent says.

Ian Holm made his debut in the late 1960s, but seriously broke out as the hostile android in the 1979 Alien movie – in which, in a famous scene, he sees his uncoupled head lying on a table while wires hang from his neck, everything as he speaks on.

And his repertoire was huge. It went from acting by Harold Pinter to Wiliam Shakespeare’s “King Lear”.

In addition, he has also starred in films such as ‘The Fifth Element’, ‘The Aviator’ and the two ‘Hobbits’ films from 2012 and 2014.

However, he is best remembered for his role as Bilbo Baggins – in Danish Bilbo Sikker – in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy ‘Lord of the Rings’.

Ian Holm won the British BAFTA Award back in 1968 for his role in ‘The Bofors Gun’, just as he became nominated for an Oscar for his role as a crazy trainer in the movie ‘The Will to Victory’ from 1981.

He managed to get married four times, leaving behind five children.
