Now 5G is being switched on in Denmark: What you need to know about the new mobile network

TDC 5G

TDC is the first provider to offer access to the 5G network.

Today, TDC officially turns on what will be called the mobile network of the future: 5G.

5G replaces the 4G network that most of us have on our mobiles right now. With 5G comes a much greater stability , and for us consumers also comes higher speed. In the long run, it can be 100 times faster than 4G.

But 5G is about much more than just fast internet. It can have crucial implications for our communities in healthcare , the automotive industry, automated factories and the financial sector.

Here are five things you need to know about the new mobile technology.

5G can end up being 100 times as fast as 4G. But when we talk about speed, we are actually talking about two different things, explains Gert Frølund Pedersen, professor of radio communication at Aalborg University.

On the one hand, the speed becomes higher, ie the time it takes to send an entire stack of images via the mobile network, for example.

In part, the reaction time becomes shorter. That is, the time that elapses from the time you send a message until it arrives at the recipient. What is called “ping time” in expert circles.

– Of course, it does not have much to say when we talk about text messages, but when we start talking about self-driving cars, it will be extremely important that there is no delay, and 5G technology can deliver, says Gert Frølund Pedersen.

In fact, 5G is much faster than we need.

– At present, we do not need the speed that 5G can deliver. But the technology must last for many years, and therefore it is good that space has been created for the things we have not yet invented, he says.
