A police officer intercepted that hundreds of people had gathered for car races in Holsted on Friday despite assembly bans.

On Friday night, the South and South Jutland Police have charged 221 people for violating the assembly ban.

The many people gathered for an illegal street race, a so-called street race, in an industrial district in Holsted.

Police estimate there were between 100 and 150 cars assembled for the illegal event.

This is according to the watchdog manager Henrik Sønderskov on the night of Saturday.

Earlier in the day – around 1.30 pm – the many car enthusiasts gathered in Varde.

– We send a patrol up there and some fines are distributed, and then people disappear from there, says Henrik Sønderskov.

But the street race fans weren’t done.

– So they obviously plan to meet at the slaughterhouse in Holsted instead. It intercepts one of our officers, so we send out a strong force there and get it all shut off, says the commander.

The Danish Crown slaughterhouse in Holsted is located on Energivej, and since there are only two roads to and from the area, it was easy for the police to block the exit for the many motorists.

We get set up a lock that people had to drive through to get away. So there was no way around it, unless you took it on foot beyond the fields, says Henrik Sønderskov.

He cannot deny that there were a couple of pieces that escaped, but nonetheless it turned into a total of 221 charges.

The fine for violating it temporaryassembly ban during the corona crisis is in the first instance of DKK 2500. In repeat cases, there will be a basis for a higher fine.

The street race in Holsted took place on Friday around 21.15.
