The iconic statue on Langelinie in Copenhagen has been exposed to vandalism

Copenhagen

The Little Mermaid at Langelinie in Copenhagen has been exposed vandalism.

That’s what the Extra Blade writes.

The statue – or rather the stone on which the mermaid sits – has been painted with graffiti. “Racist Fish” – in Danish “Racist Fish” – stands there.

The Copenhagen Police inform Ritzau that it has received a notification vandalism towards the Little Mermaid from just the Extra Blade.

– We received the review from Ekstra Bladet.

– They’ve come to us. We are on a patrol to see what has happened, says Chief of Staff Jesper Frandsen on Friday shortly before 9am.

Several statues hit by vandalism

It is far from the first time the Little Mermaid has been exposed vandalism. Up to several times the statue has had its head cut off, just as it has lost its arm.

Paint has also been poured several times over the Little Mermaid.

As late as January this year , “Free Hong Kong” – liberating Hong Kong – was written with red paint on the stone on which she sits.

The Little Mermaid is designed by sculptor Edvard Eriksen and modeled after his wife, Eline. The figure is the sculptor’s embodiment of the mermaid in HC Andersen’s famous adventure “The Little Mermaid”.

The statue was a gift to Copenhagen donated by brewer Carl Jacobsen, the son of Carlsberg’s founder, JC Jacobsen. It was erected at Langelinie in 1913.

Recently, several statues in Denmark and abroad have been exposed vandalism.
