Every lost life is a tragedy. The numbers continue to rise. We expected that. But we can also see signs that we have succeeded in delaying the spread, infections are spreading more slowly than feared. On a deeply serious background, this gives rise to cautious optimism, says Mette Frederiksen.

The announcement comes after both she and the State Serum Institute at the weekend expressed optimism based on the development in the number of hospitalized and dead.

There are still more inmates and deaths, but the trend shows that the increase is steady and linear rather than, as feared, an explosive increase seen in countries such as Italy and Spain.

The latest figures show that 77 Danes infected with coronavirus have lost their lives, 533 are hospitalized, of whom 137 are intensive and 119 are respirators.

The current restrictions with, for example, school closures and assembly bans of a maximum of ten persons apply provisionally until after Easter.

So far, the health care system can keep up, that’s a good sign. There are indications that Denmark may stay on the green curve, says Mette Frederiksen.
