Health Minister Magnus Heunicke Dissatisfied With Government Corona Strategy

Magnus Heunicke

The Minister believes that one should have listened to the WHO and tested many more.

Health Minister Magnus Heunicke (S) criticizes the Danish health authorities for parts of the coronavirus handling strategy in Denmark.

He is particularly unhappy with one point. He says that in DR’s radio program ‘P1 Morning’ .

I am not happy with the point in the strategy of continuing to test mainly seriously ill. It was a too narrow target group. There should be far more testing, says Magnus Heunicke.

He points out that the Danish authorities changed strategy on March 12, so that fewer and only seriously ill people should be tested for coronavirus.

Should have done as WHO recommended
Heunicke believes instead that one should have tested far more from the start.

That is also the message of WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Test, test, test, were Tedros’ words at a press conference on March 16.

According to the Directorate of Health, Søren Brostrøm, that call was not directed at Denmark and the Danish strategy.

But the Minister of Health says in P1 Morning that he himself has called the WHO Secretary-General and investigated the matter and that Søren Brostrøm is wrong. The call is for all countries, including Denmark, says Heunicke in the program.

Very violent charges
TV 2’s political editor Troels Mylenberg calls it “very violent charges”.

It can have quite a big impact on how we can get through this crisis, if he is caught wrong, he says.

It would have been easier for Heunicke and his further work to save this kind of settlement for later. But it is also an indication that the authorities have decided politically and professionally to communicate very directly, so that you do not get into a year-long clean-up work afterwards, says Troels Mylenberg.

TV 2 is trying to get a comment from the Ministry of Health and the National Board of Health.
