The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration with a new recommendation for sweet toothed Danes

The Danes eat four times as many snacks and sweets as is recommended, and this has consequences for public health.

That is why the Danish Food and Drug Administration is now issuing a reminder rule of “no more than five handfuls per week” with reference to how large amounts of sweets and snacks you can eat if you want to follow the official dietary advice.

The recommendation includes sweets, chips, cake and ice cream as well as juice and soft drinks.

– We hope that it is a rule of thumb that Danes will take with them when they shop or sit in front of the television on Fridays, says Charlotte Kølln, section manager at the agency, to Ritzau.

Today, Danes eat the equivalent of 20 handfuls of snacks and sweets per week.
