Bayern are ready for the Champions League final after victory over Lyon

Bayern

Lyon had several chances, but in the end could not stand up to strong Bayern Munich.

German giants Bayern Munich are ready for the Champions League final.

This is clear after the strong southern Germans defeated French Lyon 3-0 in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.

Lyon gave the German champions some more resistance than Barcelona in the quarter-finals and also had several great chances. In the end, however, the sharpness was lacking, and the favorites from Bayern therefore ran with the final ticket.

In the final, which will be played on Sunday at 9 pm, Bayern will face PSG.

In Wednesday’s semi-final , the Lyon team – despite their role as the underdog – was at least as dangerous as the Germans in the first quarter of the match.

Lyon captain Memphis Depay came close to opening the scoring as he rounded goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after about five minutes of play. The Dutchman’s finish, however, went a bit past the Bayern goal.

Just over ten minutes later, Lyon striker Karl Toko Ekambi was also close, but his finish hit the post.

Gnabry and Lewandowski made the difference

Instead, it was the favorites from Bayern who scored the first goal of the match.

Serge Gnabry received the ball on the right side and drove elegantly towards the center of the field. From here, he slammed the ball into the goal corner with his left foot.

After just over half an hour, goal machine Robert Lewandowski was played completely free in front of Lyon’s goal. The Pole, however, fumbled something with the finish and miraculously ended up burning the big chance.

Luckily for him, Gnabry followed up and could easily make it 2-0.

In the second half, Lyon again had some great chances, and especially midfield creator Houssem Aouar was responsible for several good plays.

The French, however, lacked the last cynicism, while Manuel Neuer took good care of between the posts.

Eventually, top scorer Lewandowski closed and shut down as he came up nicely to a post and foreheaded the ball in behind Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

It was Lewandowski’s 15th goal in the Champions League this season. He now has one match to reach 17 and break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
