Wet week sends April out of dry top-ten

Since April 1 – even Sunday – just 5.9 millimeters have fallen nationally. It is an unusually small rainfall and if April was over now it would make it the third driest April since 1874.

Although there are only four days until May 1, the next few days will be quite wet, and even on Thursday – April 30 – between 10 and 15 millimeters of rain can fall nationally.

Therefore, April 2020 is likely to end with a total rainfall of between 15 and 20 millimeters. It will send the month out of a drizzle top-ten over the most precipitous April months since nationwide measurements began in 1874.

Last year we got 14.5 millimeters of rain in April, and it may well end up being a bit wetter this April. However, it is quite certain that April this year will end up much drier than usual. In an average April, there will be 41 millimeters of rain.
