Correspondent: The EU has learned from its mistakes
On Wednesday, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presents a coordinated EU reopening plan.
According to TV 2 correspondent in Brussels, Lotte Mejlhede, the European Commission was not quick enough to respond when the corona crisis hit.
“Now you have apparently learned from your mistakes,” she says.
The EU summit roadmap for the reopening of Europe aims to ensure that the continent comes out of the crisis much more coordinated than it enters. At the same time, it is also an attempt – on the part of the EU – to put on the driver’s shirt and play precisely the role for which it is intended – the coordinator and the one who can provide the right advice with the greatest possible expertise both in health and economically.
The advice is to start a re-opening very carefully and constantly monitor the progress of the spread and at the same time ensure that each country’s health system can follow the natural increase in the spread of infection that will occur as a result of a re-opening. At the same time, each country must coordinate a reopening with its neighbors so that there is no risk of large spread of infection in precisely the border areas.
Germany will allow large stores to reopen
In order to loosen the restrictions during the corona crisis, the German government will allow shops with an area of more than 800 square meters to reopen. But the demands so far for physical distance between people will be maintained, writes dpa. Based on a draft, Reuters writes that citizens are encouraged not to go on private trips or to visit family members. At the same time, it is a priority to reopen schools from 4 May.
