Fears of release of hazardous materials after container ship collides with bridge – Maersk prioritizes ‘protecting the environment’

In the American city of Baltimore, there are now fears of spills from the container ship which hit a bridge on the night of Tuesday local time, where several people have been killed.

At a press conference, the chairman of the US National Transportation Safety Board, Jennifer Homendy, says that there are 764 tons of what they categorize as hazardous materials on board the cargo ship.

Some of the containers containing the material are damaged, it says.

– We have observed shine on the fairway, she says according to CBS News.

Mærsk has announced in a written response that the shipping company cannot comment on what its customers have had of cargo on the ship.

– Maersk cooperates with the US Coast Guard and passes on all the available information that is needed, it says.

– The work that is prioritized is to secure the stage and protect the environment, it reads.
