Violent demonstrations in the American metropolis after a white officer shot a black man.
The day after a black man was shot and killed by Atlanta police, the U.S. police chief has resigned from the job.
That’s according to Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who has accepted Police Chief Erika Shields’ resignation.
That’s what the Reuters news agency writes.
27-year-old Rayshard Brooks had fallen asleep in his car while waiting in a queue for Wendy’s fast food restaurant, and was subsequently shot by a valet Friday night local time.
Police have stated he resisted arrest after a spirits test that turned out positive.
Triggered demonstrations
The incident triggered Saturday demonstrations in Atlanta, the largest city in the state of Georgia. The fast food restaurant at which Brooks was killed was also set on fire.
