Copenhagen is right now the municipality in Denmark where there are the most infected per 100,000 inhabitants. With today’s figures from the Statens Serum Institut, the capital is at the top of the list of municipalities’ spread of infection with 4,939 infected inhabitants in the last seven days. This is a cause for concern – not least with Health and Care Mayor Sisse Marie Welling (SF), who states:
– The infection is out of control.
The capital has been hit by extensive closure, but so far it is not something that is seen on the infection numbers, which is increasing.
– Unfortunately, we can see that the number of elderly people in nursing homes who are infected is higher than in the spring, when it looked worst. We have done a lot – also more than we could in the spring. But unfortunately we can only see the numbers grow and grow day by day. That Copenhageners are queuing up to be tested – this is a very worrying development, she says.
Coronal fatigue
The mayor points out that corona fatigue has manifested itself.
– I think most people are tired of corona, tired of restrictions and could not see the people you want to see. And a lot of people do what they can to comply with the restrictions and then once in a while, they get away with it. But we have to be honest – this is a worrying situation and there is only one tool left in the toolbox and that was what we saw in March when everyone was sent home. And no one wants us to go into that, she says.
However, the mayor does not believe that the municipality itself is not doing enough to warn about the infection and campaign. She is therefore also willing to look at all initiatives – such as what the neighboring municipality of Frederiksberg has just announced.
Here, physical school start for students in 5th to 10th grade is postponed until 11 January for the time being.
