200,000 citizens in Catalonia are isolated after a new outbreak of infection

The area near the city of Lerida, which is located approximately 150 kilometers west of Barcelona, is experiencing an increase in infection cases.

There has been a steep increase in the number of coronavirus infected near the city of Lerida in the northeastern region of Catalonia in Spain.

This means that the entire area, where some 200,000 citizens live, will be closed down.

This is according to the regional president of Catalonia, Quim Torra, according to the AFP news agency.

– We have decided to close the area, based on data confirming a steep increase in the number of Covid-19 infections, he says.

Quim Torra adds that no one is allowed to leave or enter the area.

Lerida is located approximately 150 kilometers west of the big city of Barcelona.
