According to Uefa, Pernille Harder was among the top three female soccer players last season.
The Corona Pandemic has canceled this year’s Ballon d’Or nomination and the International Football Association’s (Fifa) nomination of the world’s best footballer, but the European Football Association ( Uefa ) is sticking to its awards for the 2019/20 season.
On Wednesday, Uefa announced that the list of possible winners of Player of the Year has been shaved down to three, and Danish Pernille Harder is among the top three among women.
Harder, who has just switched from Wolfsburg to Chelsea, is fighting for the honor with Englishman Lucy Bronze and Frenchman Wendie Renard.
For the first time in the award’s ten-year history, neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi are in the top 3 of the men.
Instead, it will be either Manchester City’s Belgian creator Kevin De Bruyne, Bayern Munich’s living wall Manuel Neuer or his accurate teammate Robert Lewandowski who will run with the award.
The prizes will be awarded on October 1, when Uefa draws lots for this season’s Champions League group stage.
On the same occasion, Coach of the Year is also chosen for both men and women.
