Rasmus Prehn Is The New Minister Of Agriculture And Fishing

Mogens Jensen

Mogens Jensen’s previous areas of responsibility will be divided between several ministers. Including a brand new one.

Rasmus Prehn becomes new Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.

This is stated by the Prime Minister’s Office in a press release.

He was previously Minister for Development Cooperation. Flemming Møller Mortensen will take over that area, and he will also become Minister for Nordic Co-operation.

57-year-old Flemming Møller Mortensen has been in the Folketing for the Social Democrats since 2007, and he is the new name for the government team, which Mette Frederiksen had announced in advance .

In addition, the area of gender equality will be transferred to the Ministry of Employment under Peter Hummelgaard, who will in future be Minister of Employment and Gender Equality.

Mogens Jensen withdrew

The appointments are a consequence of Mogens Jensen resigning as Minister of Food, Fisheries, Gender Equality and Nordic co-operation on Wednesday.

He stated that he no longer had the necessary confidence from a majority in the Folketing after the government in early November issued an illegal order to kill all the country’s mink.

Two statements have subsequently shown that seven ministers were warned that there was no legal basis for requiring all mink to be killed. The case has led the party leaders in the blue bloc to demand Mette Frederiksen’s resignation.

But so far only Mogens Jensen has smoked on the case.

In audience with the queen

According to the plan, Mette Frederiksen should have been with the Queen on Thursday at 11 am to inform about the changes in the government.

But about ten minutes before the meeting at Amalienborg, the Prime Minister’s Office stated that the visit had been canceled because a person in Mette Frederiksen’s family had tested positive for coronavirus.

Instead, the Queen was briefed by telephone by the Prime Minister at 2.30pm.

Rasmus Prehn, Flemming Møller Mortensen is now in audience with the Queen. Then Mette Frederiksen will present the new ministers to the public at Amalienborg Castle Square.

At 4 pm, there will be a handover in the Ministry of the Environment and Food. In future, it will simply be called the Ministry of the Environment and will continue to have Lea Wermelin as Minister.

At 5 pm, there will be a handover in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which the Minister for Development Cooperation will report.
