Queen Margrethe

Instead, she calls for people to send a bouquet to the many senior citizens who are having a hard time at the moment.

The Queen receives flowers every year on her birthday from near and far, writes Kongehuset in a press release.

In light of the serious situation of many Danes in connection with the spread of coronavirus, Her Majesty the Queen has a special wish on the occasion of the impending 80th birthday, writes Kongehuset.

Furthermore, it will not be possible to meet in person and write a greeting in the Yellow Palace. Instead, from April 14, a congratulatory list will be opened on the royal house’s website, the press release states.

The Queen turns 80 on April 16 and a number of the birthday celebrations that were planned have also been canceled due to the coronavirus’s entry into Denmark.

Spoke to the Danes during the corona crisis

Queen Margrethe gave a historic speech to the Danes on March 17 in connection with the spread of coronavirus.

In the speech, she urged all Danes to listen to the authorities recommendations.

Not everyone takes the situation seriously enough. It is serious and it applies to all of us. Of course, it is disappointing and unfortunate not to be able to meet each other, especially when you are young. But you have the time for you, and you have other ways to meet in this digital age, said Queen Margrethe.

It was the first time since the end of World War II that the Danish royal house spoke to the nation, without a New Year’s speech or speech at an event.

When she does now, it’s because it’s such a precarious and serious situation. This is something that requires a very special response from the queen, said royal house expert Lars Hovbakke.
