On Sunday morning, the first Danes received a sting with the vaccine against coronavirus. “I could barely feel it,” says one of them.
Vaccinations against coronavirus are now underway in Denmark.
Fynboen Leif Heiselberg was the first Dane to receive a vaccine against the coronavirus.
– I have it damn excellent, completely excellent, no problems, said the 79-year-old, shortly after he had received the vaccine.
Leif Heiselberg suffers from diabetes and is a resident of Ældrecenter Øst in Odense. He received one of the 9750 vaccine doses that arrived in Denmark yesterday and today will be given to nursing home residents and front staff at Danish hospitals. The vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech was approved in the EU on 21 December, after which it was agreed that all countries should start vaccinating on 27 December.
That planning made Leif Heiselberg “euphoric”.
– It was not so fun to get well in Denmark, if there were dead in Italy, right? That pleases me the most, he told the horde of journalists standing in front of the care center in the storm. But the weather did not bother the newly vaccinated fynbo.
– It looks brilliant. Even though it is raining, the sun is shining, said Leif Heiselberg.
– Essential for all of us
Another who was among the first in the Danish vaccine queue was 92-year-old Carl-Einer Jørgensen.
– It is essential for all of us – for humanity as a whole, that we have the opportunity to eradicate the pandemic. It would be nice if we got back to normal, it sounded from the resident at Plejecentret Fællegården in Copenhagen shortly before he got the famous plug.
Thank you very much, it was delicious. I could barely feel it and was not even aware that it was happening, said Carl-Einer Jørgensen, who mentioned the only side effect he could feel was “pure pleasure”.
– I believe in the vaccine and I believe I live forever now.
All 280 residents of the care center must be vaccinated during the day by a vaccine team of 15 people in addition to the nursing home staff. Because the vaccines are fragile and require careful and cold handling.
Rolled out in the next few weeks
Although the EU had plans for a simultaneous vaccine rollout, Germany, however , kicked off and began vaccinating on Saturday. Hungary and Slovakia did the same . Vaccination is also underway in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
