Magdalena Andersson elected as Sweden’s Prime Minister – for the second time in less than a week

The Social Democrat Magdalena Andersson will be Sweden’s next prime minister after a vote in the Swedish parliament, the Riksdag. Thus, Sweden gets a social democratic one-party government.

173 MPs (members of parliament) voted against Andersson, and 176 voted in favor or neutral. In Sweden, it’s just a matter of not having a majority against it.

Andersson was otherwise appointed Sweden’s first female prime minister as early as Wednesday last week. But after a blue fiscal policy was voted through the same day, the governing party the Green Party no longer wanted to be part of the government.

Therefore, Magdalena Andersson resigned as Prime Minister, just seven hours after she was given her title. But now today’s vote has decided that she will still be allowed to become Sweden’s next prime minister
