European leaders should have been much more ambitious when they had to commit to their common vaccine strategy in June last year.
It acknowledges the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, after that EU countries have had major problems with thatvaccinate their populations.
He believes that member states underestimated how fast the vaccines against covid-19 would be developed and that it influenced their decisions.
– We did not aim for the stars. It should be a lesson for all of us. It was a mistake that we did not have higher ambitions and that we did not have the madness to say: ‘It is possible, let’s do it,’ he tells the TV station ERT.
In total, countries have purchased more than 2.6 billion covid-19 doses.
