The countries have also signed a new agreement in which Britain provides Ukraine with security guarantees.
Over the coming year, Britain will provide £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine. This corresponds to a good 21 billion kroner.
The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said this during a visit to Ukraine today, writes the BBC .
– I am in Ukraine to deliver a simple message. Our support cannot and will not waver. To all Ukrainians, Britain is with you – as long as it takes, writes Rishi Sunak at X .
This is approximately £200 million more than in the previous two years.
Britain will, among other things, provide Ukraine with long-range missiles, air defenses and artillery shells. Around £200 million will be spent on drones, most of which will be manufactured in the UK.
According to the UK government, their donation of drones will be the largest donation of drones by any nation.
– Great Britain is already one of Ukraine’s closest business partners because we understand that their security is equal to our security, says Rishi Sunak.
The UK provides security guarantees
In addition to the increased military aid, Great Britain and Ukraine have signed a new agreement in which Great Britain provides security guarantees to the war-torn country.
It means Britain will continue to share intelligence with Ukraine, help with cyber security and medical and military training. This is what the British government writes in a press release .
The agreement also commits the UK to help Ukraine in the event that the country is again attacked by Russia and to provide “prompt and sustained” assistance for its defence.
– If Great Britain and other countries had given such a level of guarantees after 1991, there would have been no Russian aggression at all, writes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on X.
– Our common goal is to ensure that an attack on Ukraine will never happen again, once the current Russian aggression has been stopped and Ukraine has been strengthened, the post continues.
To strengthen the countries’ ties, the UK will also fund online English lessons for Ukrainians.
