Danish Crown closes slaughterhouse for at least a week after new cases of infection

Therefore, the slaughterhouse’s 900 employees must go into self-isolation and be tested for covid-19, it sounds from Danish Crown. 600 employees have already been tested.

– It is violent to be in a situation where almost 150 employees are infected and many of them are ill. It hurts all of us at Danish Crown, says CEO Jais Valeur.

Cold room is emptied on Monday

The closure of the slaughterhouse will take place during Monday, where a group of employees will show up to empty filled cold rooms for goods. There will be no slaughter.

Danish Crown says that they do not expect the closure to affect deliveries to the group’s customers in Denmark.

The development in infection numbers over the past week does not indicate an explosion in the spread of infection, but conversely, the intensive test program has not succeeded in containing the infection as hoped. That is why we are now taking the consequence and closing down the slaughterhouse, says Jais Valeur.

The housing conditions of Polish workers play a role

It has previously been described how Polish workers at the slaughterhouse in Ringsted lived in a small space, which may have helped to spread the infection.
