Coronava vaccine can be approved for use in Denmark this year

Corona Vaccines

The first Danes can potentially be vaccinated in January, says Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke (S).

There is most likely a crucial Christmas present on the way to the Danes.

The two corona vaccines from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna have now been set up for emergency approval in the EU and may soon be on the market. It writes the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in two press releases .

And if the documentation is in order, Pfizer / BioNTech’s vaccine will be approved no later than 29 December and Moderna no later than 12 January for use in Denmark and the rest of the EU.

The first Danes can potentially be vaccinated in January, writes Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke (S) on Twitter .

However, the approval only takes place if the EMA’s Medicines Committee assesses that the evidence for the efficacy, safety and quality of the vaccines is solid and that the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the side effects.

Emergency procedure ensures approval

Normally, it takes the EMA several months to review the extensive documentation from companies’ drug trials, but with a coronavirus that continues to spread across most of the world, the EMA has set in motion an emergency procedure where the documentation can be approved on an ongoing basis.

The reason for the rapid approval process is that the EMA assesses that the effect of the vaccine is greater than the risks they expect it to have.
