When – and if – a vaccine against coronavirus is approved, agreements have been reached on so many doses that all citizens in Denmark can be offered to be vaccinated.
This is what Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke (S) says at a press conference on Friday.
There are about 200 projects worldwide where companies are trying to develop a vaccine against covid-19.
Three of them, the EU Commission has entered into agreements on behalf of Denmark and the other EU countries. These are AstraZeneca, Sanofi-GSK and Johnson & Johnson.
Their vaccines are thus purchased if they end up being approved by the authorities and entering the market.
Last week, however, the Danish Medicines Agency emphasized that it is far from certain whether the vaccines work and can thus be approved for vaccination against coronavirus.
It usually takes 10-15 years to develop a vaccine. But companies around the world have invested heavily in the development of a corona vaccine.
At the same time, the authorities have given permission to put the turbo on the approval process. Therefore, the first vaccines could potentially be ready in a few months.
