The Queen sails with royal ship for delayed reunion party

Last year, the royal ship’s summer cruise was canceled, but this year it will take place starting on 4 May.

The royal ship “Dannebrog” could not complete last year’s voyage due to coronavirus.

This year, however, the story is different. On May 4, Queen Margrethe goes on board and begins this year’s sailing season.

It informs the royal house in a press release.

This year’s trip goes to the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Thisted, Esbjerg and Fanø, among other places.

Marks the reunion

On 13 June, Queen Margrethe will take part in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the reunification of Denmark and Southern Jutland, where Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian will also take part.

The anniversary was actually last year. But as with so much else, the corona postponed parts of the celebration.

According to Thomas Andresen, chairman of the secretariat of the Reunification 2020, many southern Jews had been looking forward to the queen’s visit.

– I am very pleased that the Queen is one of the first after the reopening to visit us in Southern Jutland, he says in a press release.

During the visit, Queen Margrethe follows in the footsteps of her grandfather, King Christian X. He made the journey in July 1920 after the reunion.

– We have a party to that extent, and I am grateful that both large lighthouses and local events have continued and found a new place in the calendar, so we can celebrate the reunion both in Southern Jutland, Copenhagen and elsewhere in the country, it sounds.

Sails all summer

A month later, the royal ship sails north, where the queen will visit Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

At the end of the summer, the trip goes to Thisted, Esbjerg and Fanø, where Queen Margrethe visits a number of companies and cultural institutions.

On 30 August, the queen visits Thisted, the next day the trip goes to Esbjerg, and on 1 September she is scheduled to visit Fanø.

The summer cruise with the royal ship is a tradition with over 100 years behind it. The ship has been past most of the ports in Denmark and visited ports in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and on the east coast of the United States.

The royal ship is the official and private residence of the Queen and the Royal Family. It also serves as a training ground for 38 conscripts.
