The protests take place after a man dies after a brutal arrest.
At least 10 people have been killed and hundreds injured in clashes in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá.
Protesters have been on the streets since Wednesday to protest police after a man lost his life earlier in the week when police repeatedly used a stun gun against him.
According to the AFP news agency, the city’s mayor, Claudia Lopez, said on Twitter that at least 326 people had been injured in fighting between protesters and police – including 114 officers.
Over 60 of them have been wounded by gunfire.
The country’s defense minister says 1,600 extra officers will be sent to Bogotá.
Begged the police to stop
Over the course of the week, a video of a brutal arrest of 46-year-old law student and family man Javier Ordonez has flourished.
In the video, one can, according to the news agency Reuters, see how he is held down by two officers while being hit with a stun gun at least five times. Several times he is heard begging to stop, but in the video, the police continue to use the stun gun, at the same time as an officer puts a knee in the back of Ordonez.
According to his friends, the arrest happened when they had broken some corona restrictions, but why he ended up on the ground and was exposed to a stun gun is not known.
Ordonez was later taken to a local medical clinic, where he later died.
The exact cause of his death has not been determined yet, but according to Ordonez ‘sister-in-law, he was exposed to the stun gun 12 times.
