High school parties with alcohol are in danger of becoming a thing of the past

16-year-olds can buy beer, wine and gajolshots, but 22 organizations have changed that.

Many may associate high school parties with gajol shots and Breezers with pineapple flavors.

But that may change if it stands to 22 different organizations.

In a joint appeal, they call on politicians to set the limit for buying beer and wine from 16 to 18 years. They do this, among other things, after an international study has shown that the 9th graders drink more often than before.

And if politicians choose to listen to the call , then non-alcoholic high school parties can become a reality for anyone under 18 years of age. This is what Birgitte Vedersø, chairman of Danske Gymnasier, says.

– I think the consequence may be that those over 18 can buy alcohol for high school parties, and those under 18 can not. But it depends on how the legislation is formulated. But that is not what has been the focus of the proposal, she says.

Vodka rather than beer

But the proposal does not fall into very good soil with them, it is going to go beyond.

The Association of Danish High School Students is afraid that you will not learn to drink in a sensible way. This is what Ingrid Kjærgaard, chairwoman of the high school students’ organization, says.

– We believe that young people learn to drink in a more sensible way when you first have to drink beer and wine and only later have to drink hard liquor.

Because if both beer and strong alcohol are illegal for 16- and 17-year-olds, then you probably choose the strong alcohol to a greater extent, says Ingrid Kjærgaard.
