PSG had plenty of chances to score, but it was Bayern Munich who snatched the Champions League title.
Bayern Munich won the Champions League on Sunday for the sixth time in the history of the football club.
The German team won 1-0 in the final over French Paris Saint-Germain, who still have never won the tournament.
Bayern winger Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the match after an hour of play on a header.
This year’s final was played at the Estadio da Luz in Portuguese Lisbon without spectators due to the corona pandemic.
It was generally an entertaining match that was played at a high pace.
The first 45 minutes ended without goals, but both teams could easily have scored two or three goals with a little more luck and skill.
Bayern dominated the ball
The Bayern team had the ball the most, but PSG were dangerous on quick conversions.
Neymar got the first big chance of the match after 18 minutes, when the Brazilian after an anonymous start was played free in the field. The extremely well-played Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer delivered a great save from close range.
Four minutes later, Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski hit the post as he turned around and showed glimpses of the goal nose.
And the chances started to come at a faster pace at both ends of the field in this phase.
PSG combined nicely and quickly through the Bayern defense, and Angel Di Maria got a great chance after half an hour. But the Argentine kicked a lot over goal with his cold right leg demonstrating shortcomings.
Bayern then had to make a substitution when Jérôme Boateng went out with an injury. In came Niklas Süle.
Lewandowski got a big chance on a header shortly after, but the Polish top scorer headed straight at PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who had been ready for the final after a minor injury.
Shortly before the break, Bayern stopper David Alaba made a huge mistake in the play-up, and a couple of PSG passes later, Kylian Mbappé got a free kick in the box, but he finished weakly and straight in the arms of Neuer.
In the second half, it was again the Bayern team that dominated with the ball, but the French kept lurking on counter-attacks.
However, it was Bayern who struck with a goal after 59 minutes when Joshua Kimmich sent a cross into the back of the box.
Here, Coman was completely free and could head the 1-0 goal in the far corner. PSG defender Thilo Kehrer misjudged the post and dropped the mark of Coman in the situation.
PSG chased the equalizer
PSG desperately tried to respond again and were also close several times.
Di Maria found with a smart heel pass Marquinhos, who finished flat, but again Neuer was in place as a living bouncer.
The Bayern players kept pushing PSG high on the pitch and it made it difficult for the French team to get to chances.
In overtime, PSG came up with a great chance, but Mbappé and Neymar could not get the ball in the net.
