There must be an end to coal power in Poland, and therefore the Polish government will set an end date for the industry.
This is what the country’s climate minister, Urszula Zielinska, says, according to Reuters.
– Only with an end date can we plan, and only with an end date can the industry plan, people can plan. So yes, we are definitely working on setting an end date, she says.
According to Reuters, Poland gets about 70 percent of its energy from coal, although it has increased wind and solar cell production in recent years.
The former Polish government, led by the national conservative PiS party, had reached an agreement with unions to continue mining coal until 2049.
