Germany Is Willing To Open The Border To Denmark On Friday

No specific agreement has yet been concluded with Denmark.

Too early with Italy

Horst Seehofer says at the press conference that border control can be reintroduced if new waves of coronary infection emerge.

The minister further said that it is too early to ease border control into Italy, one of the countries most affected by coronary disease.

Germany closed its borders to its neighboring countries on March 16 to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The EU will open its borders

The resignation from Germany comes at the same time as the EU on Wednesday presents a number of guidelines on how EU citizens can start traveling again.

It’s time to start lifting travel restrictions, as the pandemic has so far peaked in Europe, the European Commission says.

With guidelines and recommendations, the European Commission is proposing that borders between countries should be reopened. It has the dual purpose of enabling people to “get a well-deserved rest”, while for the businesses that make a living from tourism, there is a definite life saving.

 Millions of jobs depend on tourism, and it is often in areas where there is not much other industry, EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said at a press conference.

She stresses that “it must be safe” and no one “should travel if they are sick”. The boundaries should be opened gradually, it states. This must be done in a way that re-opens borders between EU countries where the coronavirus infection is at the same level.
