26 Persons Arrested In Case Of Dead Migrants In Truck

Migrants In Truck

A number of suspected traffickers have been arrested after 39 migrants were found dead in England last year.

In a major police action, 26 people have been arrested in the wake of a tragic case of dead Vietnamese migrants in the UK last year.

This is what Eurojust’s European cooperation says on Wednesday.

Police in France and Belgium carried out the comprehensive action on Tuesday morning.

13 have been arrested near the French capital, Paris, while another 13 have been arrested at the Belgian capital, Brussels.

– The suspects are allegedly part of an organized group that smuggles refugees from Asia – especially Vietnam – and who has probably transported several people daily for several months, Eurojust writes.

Eurojust’s purpose is to strengthen cooperation between national authorities in the fight against serious cross-border crime in EU.

The arrests were the result of a collaboration between the authorities in Belgium, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Dead from cold and suffocation
The latest arrests stem from the 2019 case in which 39 migrants from Vietnam were found dead in a refrigerated container in Essex, England.

On October 23, 2019, the eight women and 31 men were found dead in the refrigerator in a trailer in Grays in Essex near London. Nine of them were teenagers. All 39 had died of cold and choking.

The driver of the truck pleaded guilty last month to 39 cases of negligentlymanslaughter. It writes BritishBBC.

Found by the bodies in the refrigerated containers, the focus was on the illegal migration organized by traffickers sending poor people from Asia, Africa and the Middle East on dangerous journeys to Western countries.
