University of Ghana Medical Centre achieves milestone with first kidney transplant

The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd (UGMC) has revealed the successful completion of its first six kidney transplant surgeries.

In a statement released on Sunday June 30, 2024 UGMC highlighted that these surgeries were conducted by a highly skilled and dedicated team of both local and international medical professionals.

“UGMC has successfully performed six kidney transplant surgeries with the highest level of precision, care, and expertise,” the statement read.

Dr. Emmanuel Asante, the Head of Urology at UGMC, noted that the procedures were executed seamlessly, reflecting the Centre’s proficiency in complex surgical operations and post-operative care.

Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah, the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, emphasized that the completion of these initial kidney transplants underscores the Centre’s dedication to advancing medical excellence, pushing boundaries, and enhancing patient care through innovative treatments and compassionate care.

He added that UGMC aims to continue elevating healthcare standards and pioneering innovative practices in the field of transplantation.
