Today, Sandra Toft’s task is to extinguish Danish CL hopes

When Team Esbjerg plays the semi-final in the Champions League on Saturday, the West Jutland must try to make a dent in Denmark’s Sandra Toft, who is Györ’s keeper.

It seems inevitable that this weekend’s Final4 in the Champions League will have Danes in the main roles, and one of those who plans to step into the limelight is Danish Sandra Toft.

The Györ player guards the cage at the Hungarian big club, which is set in the world to win club handball’s biggest tournament, but has not fulfilled that particular task since 2019.

That pressure can be felt, says the goalkeeper before the meeting with Team Esbjerg in Saturday’s semi-final.

– We don’t just have to be here. We would also like to go home with the most beautiful medal according to the club’s ambitions, says Sandra Toft to DR Sporten.

If 34-year-old Toft does her work for UG, she throws gravel into the machinery at her former club in Esbjerg, where the goalkeeper’s current national and former club coach Jesper Jensen is on the bench.

– I’ve tried that a few times since I moved (to play against Jesper Jensen, ed. ). It is always fun. You want to win.

Which of you stands the best?

– Since I moved? I do. I am the one who has won the most times, says Toft with a smile.

Sandra Toft, previously named the world’s best handball player, is in her second season in Györ, and she has made no secret of the fact that the switch to the Hungarian club was made with the aim of lifting the trophy, which four teams reach for after in Budapest at the weekend.

– It means a lot to me to be here. It’s a title I really want. We all want that. And it is clear that I would like to go home with a nicer medal than I have received the other times I have been here, says Sandra Toft.
