The British Prince Philip, who is Queen Elizabeth’s husband, has died.
It states Buckingham Palace on its website.
He turned 99 years old.
It is with great sadness that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth announces that her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, is dead.
According to the court, he slept ‘peacefully’ this morning in Windsor Castle, but further the cause of his death has not been announced.
Heart disease
Only in March did he undergo heart surgery. The court did not say in that connection what heart disease he has been treated for. Earlier it was reported that the prince was hospitalized with an infection and that it was not corona related.
Prince Philip is the father of Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. In addition to his children and wife, he leaves behind eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Prince Philips’ official title is Duke of Edinburgh, and he has Danish roots as a great-grandson of Christian IX.
He was born on June 10, 1921 in Greece as Philip, Prince of Denmark and Greece, and like Queen Margrethe belongs to the Glücksborg royal family.
Childhood became anything but safe when the family had to flee to France due to the Greco-Turkish war.
