About 30 Danes have been rejected at the border with Sweden on Tuesday night, after Sweden closed the border to Danes at midnight.
About 20 have been stopped at Lernacken outside Malmö, while ten have been stopped in Helsingborg. This is stated by press officer Ewa-Gun Westford from the Swedish police, according to the news agency TT.
At the Øresund Bridge’s mooring at Lernacken, all vehicles must be checked. In addition, trains from Denmark are inspected at Hyllie Station in Malmö and at the port of Helsingborg.
Part of the traffic to Bornholm usually goes through Sweden, where the ferry sails from Ystad to Rønne. But that possibility has now been closed down too shortly before Christmas Eve.
Instead, you must fly to Bornholm or sail from Køge to Rønne. Both the airline DAT and Molslinjen have therefore added extra departures on the two routes.
Jesper Maack, communications manager at Molslinjen, says, however, that the tickets have been torn away.
– There was so much pressure on our website last night that it was briefly completely on its knees, says Jesper Maack to TV2.
According to TV2 Bornholm, on Tuesday morning there are still a number of available seats for departures by plane on 22 December.
Transport Minister Benny Engelbrecht (S) is in dialogue with the Swedish government about whether it is possible to keep the passage over Ystad open, as was done during the closure in the spring.
– This morning I wrote to my Swedish minister colleague with a call for reconsideration, says Benny Engelbrecht to TV2.
The Swedes’ closure of the border has taken place to stop the spread of a new variant of coronavirus, which has been found in Denmark, among other places.
For the time being, the entry ban will apply for one month. The border is still open to Swedish citizens who will not be prevented from returning home.
