Department stores close down from tomorrow and all stores must close between Christmas and New Year.
With a few days until Christmas, the government now chooses to tighten the restrictions in an attempt to curb corona infection.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announces at a press conference that all department stores and department stores must close as early as tomorrow.
All shops except pharmacies and supermarkets must be closed from 25 December to 3 January.
Liberal professions such as hairdressers and physiotherapists will be closed from 21 December.
From 21 December, after-school centers and folk high schools close and the youngest school pupils from 0th to 4th grade are sent home.
– We do what we do because an epidemic that runs out of control will have major consequences and greater consequences than shutting down now.
– The situation around the corona is unfortunately very serious. More than 22,000 have been found infected in the past week against 15,000 the week before. It goes without saying that more are being tested, but we can unfortunately see that more are being tested positive, says Mette Frederiksen.
In advance, the largest school pupils, students in secondary education and students have been sent home. Both public and private employees are encouraged to work from home. Cultural and sports activities indoors are closed, and the assembly ban is for 10 people.
So the new austerity measures come on top of that.
– It is a real closure of Denmark that is going to happen, says Mette Frederiksen.
The new restrictions come on the same day as the Statens Serum Institut could report the largest number of infections ever. Since yesterday, 3,692 have been registered infected, and the number of inpatients is also increasing rapidly.
493 are now hospitalized with Covid19, an increase of 54 compared to yesterday.
