Norwegian intelligence: Attacks appear as terror

Wednesday’s attack in the Norwegian town of Kongsberg “appears at the moment as an act of terrorism”.

This is the assessment of the Norwegian intelligence service in a press release.

Further investigation should clarify what the incidents were motivated by.

At a press conference on Thursday morning, police chief Ole Bredrup Sæverud confirmed that the 37-year-old Dane, who is charged in connection with the killings of five people in Kongsberg last night, has converted to Islam.

The man has previously raised concerns about whether he had been radicalized. But these reports date from before 2021, the police chief said.

Police do not assess that the level of threat in Norway has changed as a result of Wednesday’s attack.
