When Donald Trump was president of the United States, he tried to prevent new users from downloading the Chinese-owned apps TikTok and WeChat in the United States. He considered them problematic.
But those plans put an end to his successor, Joe Biden, writes Reuters.
Instead, Biden wants the U.S. Department of Commerce to look into the security concerns that may be associated with the Chinese apps.
Last September, a U.S. court initially blocked Trump’s plans for a ban.
TikTok has been continually criticized for using data from users who download the app and for letting China use it for surveillance.
