John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate has called to congratulate him on his victory in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s concession comes as provisional results from Saturday’s election indicate an emphatic win for Mahama. In a bid to maintain calm across the nation, Bawumia earlier announced his decision to concede, acknowledging the people’s choice.
Confirming the call in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mahama wrote, “I have, this morning, received a congratulatory call from my brother Dr @MBawumia, following my emphatic victory in Saturday’s election. Thank you, Ghana.”
Results Suggest Mahama’s Lead
Provisional figures from constituencies across the country show Mahama leading significantly in the presidential race, with many NDC parliamentary candidates also securing victories.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is expected to officially confirm the results in the coming hours.
A Historic Turn in Ghana’s Politics
This marks a significant political moment as Mahama is set to return to the presidency after eight years, riding on promises of economic revitalization, transparency, and governance reforms.
Dr. Bawumia, in his earlier address, noted that his concession and congratulatory call were driven by a desire to uphold peace and democratic integrity. He urged his supporters to remain calm and prepare for the party’s future.
Mahama has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their trust and confidence, pledging to work towards national unity and prosperity during his tenure.
The NDC’s leadership has also urged calm among supporters while awaiting the EC’s official announcement.
