“The Way of the Uighur Martyrs”, “Free the Hong Kong Way” and “The Dalai Lama Way”.
A number of streets in Hungary’s capital, Budapest, were given new names on Tuesday, all referring to sensitive political issues in China. It writes Reuters.
The renamed streets are all near an area where Viktor Orban’s right-wing government has made an agreement to build a branch of Chinese Fudan University .
The Hungarian opposition has power in Budapest. The street names are the city council’s protest against the project, which critics believe will increase China’s already large influence in Hungary.
The Hungarian state will pay 20 percent of the university construction. The rest comes from loans in China.
