According to Associate Professor of Mathematical Epidemic Viggo Andreasen, the high death toll from the past month is a backlog from the corona situation before Christmas.
Another 27 people have died with coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
It shows the latest figures from the Statens Serum Institet, SSI.
Thus, Denmark has rounded another sharp corner during the corona pandemic. 2010 Danes have now died with the virus since March last year.
Just within the last month, there has been a huge increase in the number of corona-related deaths. The number thus crossed 1000 just over a month ago – more precisely on 18 December.
Deaths are due to the situation in December
According to Viggo Andreasen, associate professor of mathematical epidemiology at Roskilde University, the high number of deaths is due to the situation back in December.
– It is a backlog of how the situation was before Christmas in Denmark, he says to Ritzau.
– It takes a while before the infection reaches the elderly in nursing homes. Therefore, the deaths only increase later, after we have had high infection rates, says Viggo Andreasen.
If his calculations hold true, over the next two to three weeks we will reach between 0 and 15 deaths a day.
738 people are currently hospitalized. Of these, 123 are in intensive care and 78 are in respirator.
Expert adheres to declining infection rates
The latest update from SSI shows that since Sunday, 625 new cases of infection have been registered in 90,776 samples. That is, 0.69 percent of the samples showed a positive response.
Among the private lightning tests, 142 positive test results have been found in the last 24 hours.
– I note that the number of confirmed cases of infection continues the downward trend we have seen in the last week, says Viggo Andreasen about Monday’s infection rates.
– The question is whether the decrease we see in the number of new cases of infection with the normal corona is also enough to slow down the development of the English variant B117, he says.
