Denmark registers lowest number of new Covid-19 infections for over a month
The number new positive tests for coronavirus in Denmark registered on Tuesday is the lowest daily total since September 9th.

A total of 290 new cases of the coronavirus were registered in Tuesday’s daily update by the State Serum Institute (SSI).

The cases come from a total of 29,670 tests. September regularly saw 50,000 tests carried out daily, with upwards of 500 new cases often detected during the second half of the month.

Meanwhile, health minister Magnus Heunicke said that the R-number, also known as the reproduction rate, was now at 1.0, an increase since last week, when it was 0.8.

If the reproduction rate is above 1.0, that means the number of infected in a society will grow. If it is slightly below, the number will decline.

The number is calculated based on the rate of hospitalisations and confirmed virus cases.

It can give a delayed picture of the current situation with the virus, given the lag from infection to appearance of Covid-19 symptoms, and from symptoms to hospitalisation.

Heunicke said the current number reflected a “stable” situation with regard to new infections.

The latest data indicates that the overall picture with the virus in Denmark is encouraging, according to University of Copenhagen professor of virology Allan Randrup Thomsen.

“If you look at the curve you can see that it is slowly falling. Gradually – not markedly – but it is on its way down,” Thomsen told Ritzau.

103 people are hospitalised with Covid-19 in Denmark at the current time, a reduction by 4 since Monday. Of these, 19 are receiving ICU care including 14 on ventilator treatment.
