Denmark’s national tennis team will face Serbia in the Davis Cup in the new year.
The Danish national tennis team will have quite a task when they have to play the so-called Davis Cup Qualifiers at the beginning of the new year.
Serbia awaits here and potentially also the most winning men’s singles player in the Grand Slam ever, 37-year-old Novak Djokovic.
It is clear after the International Tennis Federation (ITF) drew lots for the tournament on Monday.
A big mouthful, one would think, but the Danish tennis star Holger Rune is happy to take up the fight.
– It’s super cool. I am looking forward to welcoming Novak and the Serbian team to Denmark, writes Holger Rune in a written reply to DR Sporten.
It is not yet certain whether Holger Rune will be part of the team that will face Serbia at home in the new year.
The young Danish tennis star has not been part of the national tennis team since September 2023, but he stated earlier on Monday to TV 2 Sport that he considers a comeback to be “really interesting”.
– I haven’t looked at my tournament program and so on – whether it fits into that week or not. But it is definitely something I would like to prioritize. We come in a higher and higher group. I always think it’s great to help Denmark and play for your country, says Holger Rune to TV 2 Sport.
