Danes Will Be Sent To Italy To Assist In The Fight Against Coronavirus

Danes

It is possible that Danes will be sent to Italy to assist in the fight against coronavirus.

Denmark will send respirators and an unmanned field hospital to Italy, one of the countries in the world most severely affected by the corona pandemic.

This is stated by Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod of the Social Democracy on Wednesday evening.

The government says they have made a thorough assessment of the Italian and Danish needs, and then have chosen to send Italy the following:

  • A number of the Defense respirators. The exact number that can be taken from the emergency is being clarified between relevant authorities.
  • Establishment of an unmanned field hospital from the Danish Emergency Management Agency. Dialogue with Italy will be entered into as to whether the physical framework that Denmark can make available here can be utilized.
  • A concrete Danish contribution of about DKK 7.5 million to the Italian Red Cross, which can be used, for example, for the procurement of protective equipment and ambulance operations.

At the same time, they open up to provide logistical assistance or send Danes to Italy in the form of a sanitation team if Italy so requests.

Italy had to wait a week for answers

Just over a week ago, Italy asked for help from Denmark to fight the corona crisis in the country. But until Wednesday evening there has been silence from the Danish government.

Earlier Wednesday, both the Radical Left and the Left criticized the government for failure to respond, and both parties demanded that Denmark send aid to the Italians. Help that Italians get now.

The Foreign Minister states that this is a “solid hand” from Denmark.

– Denmark will always help our friends and allies. That is why I am happy that we can now offer our Italian friends help.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Denmark will now enter into a dialogue with Italy about how the specific details of the aid package, such as the number of respirators, will be.

Most died worldwide

Large parts of Italy have been completely shut down – and to a much greater extent than we are experiencing here at home.

There are curfews in regions where millions of people live and the military has been sent in to enforce the ban.

Almost 140,000 are confirmed infected in Italy, and almost 18,000 have died.

Italy is thus the country in the world where most people have lost their lives due to the corona pandemic.

In recent days, however, the number of daily deaths has decreased.
