China and Iran have today signed an agreement on economic and strategic cooperation.
The Chinese are Iran’s leading trading partner and were the Iranians’ largest oil customer until the US in 2018 reintroduced violent sanctions against the clergy.
The new agreement has been reached between Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and part of the “new Silk Road”, writes Ritzau. It is a large-scale and long-term plan to recreate the trade route between China and Europe.
The plan for a coherent Global transport system, which is one of President Xi’s most important political visions, has been criticized, among other things, for being an attempt to achieve Chinese world domination.
