The queen of autotune turns 75: Here are 6 things you (maybe) did not know about Cher

The American entertainer has, among other things, won an Oscar and scored his biggest hit as a 52-year-old. And she’s still in full swing in her career.

Okay, maybe you were still a diaper baby when you first heard a whimsical, robotic voice – complemented by a thumping, rhythmic bass – coming out of your parents’ radio.

But if you think this article is about Kanye West or Drake, then you are wrong.

We’re talking about the American singer, actor and media personality Cher.

On Thursday, she turns 75 years old. And even though she could have long ago retired with her many wigs and crazy outfits, she is still active in both film and music.

Thus, she played Meryl Streep’s mother in the movie ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again ‘as recently as 2018, her latest album has only two and a half years on its back, and on her Twitter account she regularly teases for yet another album with Abba cover tracks.

Here she also has just herself published that some of the folks behind ‘Mamma Mia!’ and Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, who has written ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Forrest Gump’, among others,is making a biopicabout her life and career.

Back to that with the robot voice.

In 1998, Cher scored the biggest hit of his career with the worldwide number one single ‘Believe’. Here, along the way, her voice was distorted with autotune, which according to Soundvenue was so groundbreaking that hip hop today simply would not sound like it does if it were not for that particular song.
