“From Christmas Day until January 3, Denmark will actually be closed down,” said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a press conference on December 16.
On Tuesday 29 December, Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke convened the health rapporteurs in the Folketing’s corona follow-up group for a meeting that apparently concerns an extension of the restrictions. This is stated by Peder Hvelplund, the Unity List’s health spokesperson, who, however, says that it is not further elaborated in the notice what the meeting should be about.
“But I assume that it is partly an orientation on whether to extend the restrictions. And then I asked that we discuss New Year’s Eve, “he says.
The following are the main, current restrictions that are due to expire on January 3, 2021:
- Liberal service professions such as hairdressers, driving schools, masseurs and tattooists are closed.
- Students in 1.-4. class is sent home from school and childcare – the same goes for students in after-school and high schools.
- The closure does not apply to day care institutions such as kindergartens, crèches and day care centers, but parents who can keep their children at home are encouraged to do so.
- All shops, malls and department stores are kept closed. The same goes for all cafes and restaurants, which are now only allowed to stay open for takeaway. However, it will continue to be open in grocery stores / supermarkets, pharmacies and stores with medical equipment.
- Public employers are encouraged to send all employees in non-critical functions home to work from there. Private employers are encouraged to send employees home and work to the extent possible.
- Places where sports, associations and leisure activities are carried out must keep indoor areas closed to the public. Outdoor sports events can still be held with up to 500 people in attendance.
- Cultural institutions such as theaters, concert halls, venues, museums, cinemas and libraries must keep indoor areas closed to the public.
The following measures apply until and including 28 February 2021:
- Small assembly ban of max 10 people. However, certain exceptions apply.
- Assembly ban at outdoor funerals and funerals for a maximum of 50 people.
- Recommendation for a maximum of 10 people in private homes.
- Recommendation for social contact with a maximum of 10 people.
- Large assembly ban of 500 people.
- Suspension of the scheme for super league football.
- Suspension of the scheme for the running of indoor and outdoor sports events, etc. at facilities where more than 500 people are present at the same time.
TV 2 has asked 17 of the country’s leading experts when they expect that there will no longer be a need for restrictions.
Here, the majority of them believe that we must wait until 2022 before all restrictions are lifted.
