The Guardian writes that Iranian Sahar Tabar was arrested a year ago and now she has received her sentence. There are 10 years waiting for her in the damper, says her lawyer.
The influencer was arrested for his controversial way of using social media, including according to the charges for using the platforms for blasphemy, corruption and for inciting his followers to violence. Tabar herself later claimed that two of the charges had been dropped, but now she is still sentenced to a decade behind bars.
Sahar Tabar fights especially for women’s rights in Iran, and she has therefore used her platforms to speak out critically about the Iranian regime:
“The Islamist republic has historically plagued women. We must stand together against gender discrimination. “
In the spring, the humanitarian organization Center for Human Rights in Iran claimed that Sahar Tabar had contracted coronavirus and that she was on a respirator at a hospital in Iran’s capital, Tehran. Therefore, they demanded that she be released.
It was, however, rejected even though several other inmates were temporarily released.
The Guardian writes that according to medical records, she has mental health problems. Among other things, she has been admitted to psychiatric wards on several occasions, and with that and her age in mind, her lawyer has tried hard to get her acquitted.
But it has been rejected outright.
