The attack took place in a church in the center of Nice.
WE KNOW ABOUT THE ATTACK
At around 09.00 a man entered the church of Notre Dame, located on Avenue Jean Médecin in the center of Nice.
The man was armed with a knife and went to attack several of those present in the church. Three people have since been confirmed dead. According to the newspaper Le Figaro , a woman in the church died while another woman lost her life in a nearby cafe she had sought refuge in. A man later died of his injuries.
According to local police, one of the women had her neck cut off during the attack. The other two died of stab wounds.
All churches, mosques, synagogues and the like are ordered closed in Nice. In addition, the city’s mayor calls for all public bodies, including crèches, to close in connection with the terrorist attack. The area around the church is cordoned off.
WE KNOW ABOUT THE VICTIMS
Two women and a man died in the attack. Age and ethnicity have not yet been officially confirmed.
But according to the French media Le Figaro and La Parissien , it is a woman around the age of 70, a male church servant around the age of 45 and a woman of African descent around the age of 30.
The 70-year-old was found in the church and had his throat cut.
The 45-year-old male church servant was married and the father of two daughters. He had worked in the church for 10 years and he died in the church of several stab wounds.
The 30-year-old received several stab wounds, but managed to escape to a nearby cafe, where she eventually died of her injuries.
